Terrific job Selma! My take on your question is that Hades represents the chill of winter required for growth in the spring. He’s like the shadow side of Persephone; her opposite. Balance and the middle way are the keys to a happy life. So, he is controlling and cold, and she is free and warm. But without winter there is no summer. Yet, an extreme of either, Hades or Persephone, doesn’t create harmony. Blending the two, even though Persephone seems more likable, creates the way.

Is Hades coercive? Yes. Where there is one imbalance, there is also an opposite (Persephone’s existence means there must be a Hades). Is my theory correct? Goodness knows. It’s just my rambling thoughts).
