Patience is my forte. Everybody has a strength and waiting for the right moment’s mine. But I find myself contemplating when patience is a negative choice. How will I know it’s time for action?

“You’re so patient,” says a pal, and I’ve heard the same comment over and over throughout my life. And because my ease with waiting is considered praiseworthy, I’ve come to see it as a magic bullet that gives me the edge in all walks of life.

Patience allows me to consider my next move when I need to weigh situations.

Knowing when to pause in conversations is a powerful communication tool.

And being patient means that I’m terrific at going that extra mile to do jobs proficiently rather than rush them.

But it doesn’t escape my notice that hanging around can mean missing out on opportunities. Indeed, waiting doesn’t always indicate your good is on the way and that you should sit tight.

Tasty cakes go rancid when left on the shelf. Fabulous wines don’t always mature well. And if you wait for the queue to die down at a…
