We are all sympathetic to nature. It’s part of us. Or, you might say we are nature. Our lives, and our struggles, reflect in everyday wonders outside our front doors.

Autumn leaves circling to the ground, breaking down, and nourishing the earth remind us we, too, are only here for a short time in our present state of being.

One day, depending on how we are buried, we will add to the ground on which future generations will stand.

The circle of life, death, and rebirth is evident if we open our eyes. But many other lessons are illustrated by nature too. Sometimes, we can meditate on a challenge and then stroll and look for signs — answers to help us see a way forward.

We might spy a dung beetle who can only ever travel forward, never reversing or turning at a bend in the path, and make something of his struggle and wisdom, letting him show us the value of flexibility by his lack, yet, resilience in the face of adversity.

Or, perhaps we’ll watch a squirrel scurry up a tree and recognize something about ourselves in the way he hides from potential danger or enjoys his lofty view from the treetops close to the sky.

The human brain has a marvelous way of presenting its messages, secrets we want to know. It helps us perceive what’s before us in ways that tell us what’s going on in our subconscious. And our minds show us how to overcome difficulties and understand challenges via the way they interpret nature’s simplicity.

To recognize such signs and messages, we need only give ourselves a few moments of peace and stillness. Time to be in the moment and see what’s around us.

Autumn leaves circling to the ground, breaking down, and nourishing the earth remind us we, too, are only here for a short time in our present state of being.

When you next sit in your garden or stroll in the forest, think of a question and then let it go on the breeze. Give it to nature and let her come back with the answer you seek. You might be surprised at how much she offers.
