It Doesn’t Matter What They Think
Jul 30, 2019
A poem
Did they eat too much salt?
Become dry and embittered?
What left the crack in the tongue
that made it spill dislike?
Maybe they got not
what they wanted, and you
stayed whole, after all,
not bending to please.
For the sting of disappointment
they find unappealing
is an empowering rounding
of the soul, a rising of liberty
in your freedom,
no matter if it tastes bad to someone
who would shape you into their dream
and forget about yours.
