Since the Covid lockdowns, I’ve had my head in the sand. Unfortunately, my ostrich-like attempt to avoid seeing what’s inevitable shielded me from the painful truth: most countries will likely adopt climate change lockdowns in attempts to save the planet.

What, however, will the future look like if climate lockdowns are in place? According to the Oxfordshire council, it will involve movement restrictions (via vehicles, at least).

The idea is that residents of any area where lockdowns exist will embrace (like it or not) a 15-minute expanse approach: This involves, I imagine, not being able to go further than it takes to travel the said 15 minutes.

The plan is that residents will stay within their local communities and thus reduce their carbon footprint. (People will be given greater freedom for a set number of days per year).

How do you feel about the notion of a climate change lockdown?

Many people believe such restrictions on freedoms will lead to even stricter rules imposed by governments. They are hard to consider as realistic right now but will be eased into the public psyche gradually…
